About Strong Authentication
What is it?
Strong Authentication adds another layer of security to our Online Banking System, offering further protection from online fraudulent activity.
Strong Authentication Works in Two Ways
- It lets you know that you’re on our site and it is safe to enter your information
- It also lets us know that it’s truly you or another authorized individual who is attempting to access your financial information online
This security feature works by providing you with a personalized picture and phrase when you sign on. You will select both the picture and the phrase so they are both unique and easy for you to remember.
The Setup Process
Setup is simple and there will be easy-to-follow instructions to guide you through the entire process. Here is a brief description of each of the three setup steps:
- Select your picture and personal phrase. These will be displayed when you sign on and are your assurance that it is safe to enter information. There will be more than 200 pictures to choose from and the personal phrase can be anything you would like (maximum of 40 characters in length).
- Set up confirmation questions. These questions may be asked during the sign-on process to confirm your identity. You will need to enter a total of four challenge questions and answers.
- Register your computer (optional). We ask that you register computers you commonly use to access your account information. Registering your computer helps us to ensure that only recognized locations and individuals are accessing your information online. On a registered computer, you will not be asked to answer questions when you sign on — making it faster to access your account information.
What to Expect After Setup
Once you have gone through the setup process, Strong Authentication will be working to protect you each time you access your account. The new steps to sign on are as follows:
- Enter your User ID online.
- If you are using a registered computer, your personalized picture and phrase will appear. Verify they are correct before proceeding. If you are not using a registered computer, you will first need to correctly answer two challenge questions to confirm your identity. Then your personalized picture and phrase will appear. Verify they are correct before proceeding.
- As long as you see your personalized picture and phrase, you may now enter your password to complete the sign-on process.
