Frequently Asked Questions

What is the culture of the Bank?

You’ll find our culture is very family-friendly and that you will always be treated as a unique individual and as a valuable resource. We view ourselves as a community bank, working together towards a common goal – to be the Bank of Choice and Employer of Choice in Southern California. To do this, we embrace certain values: making a difference, respect for the individual, treating everyone with dignity, trustworthiness, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. While that may sound like big shoes to fill, every day we are working towards becoming better as a bank and better as individuals.

As part of our value system, we strongly believe in community outreach and we have a strong commitment to community service. We are currently launching California National Bank’s partnership with Stone Soup Child Care. Stone Soup Child Care is named after a tale of a community of individuals pitching in to make a soup that feeds a whole village. Stone Soup makes a difference by providing safe and enriching after-school childcare for more than 4,000 kids. California National Bank will be raising $60,000 in each of the next three years for Stone Soup. Our objective is also to build awareness about Stone Soup and aid them in attaining a goal of doubling the number of kids they serve. We have marketing material promoting Stone Soup in our branches: Stone Soup video, counter cards with self-addressed contribution envelopes, and silk screened t-shirts. The t-shirts will be sold, with proceeds going to Stone Soup.

Stone Soup is just one way we participate in the community. Many other activities take place – tutoring children, putting together Christmas boxes, volunteering as mentors and many, many more.

In fact, we have a Community Relations Committee specifically set up to help our employees achieve their volunteering and charitable-giving goals! The Community Relations Committee (CRC) was created by California National Bank to fulfill part of our mission statement. The CRC's ambition is to realize the bank’s desire to partner with and support the communities where our clients and employees live and work. The cornerstone of this mission is to provide enriching and rewarding volunteer opportunities that will enable our employees to make a material difference in the lives of others.

Our Community Relations Committee Mission Statement:
“The Community Relations Committee is dedicated to supporting and enhancing the communities we serve. With "dignity and respect," we will forge new and strengthen existing relationships within each community. Through our efforts, we will endeavor to create an uplifting environment for our neighbors.”

We believe that together we can make a difference in the lives of children and our community.

I recently submitted my resume. What is the interview process from here?

While we’re not able to respond to each resume we receive, you can be assured that a member of our Recruiting team is reviewing your qualifications. Upon continued interest in your experience coupled with a match to one of our open positions, a recruiter will be in contact to interview you or coordinate an interview with you and the hiring manager. Once we’ve selected you as a finalist for a particular position, you’ll be asked to complete an employment application and approval forms. We perform extensive background checks on all our finalists that include, but are not limited to, credit, criminal, references, and fingerprints. All this safeguards our current employees, our clients and the money entrusted to us by them, and helps us to maintain a safe working environment for everyone. Once successful results are received, an offer of employment is made, your start date is discussed and you’re one of the team!

Are there any certifications or licenses that the Bank values?

In branch locations, several financial licenses are very important. They include the Series 6/7, 63 and Life & Disability Insurance license. As either a Branch Manager or Senior Personal Banker, these become increasingly important to your success. Other certifications and/or licenses may be required in some of our Corporate positions and will be communicated in any job advertisements.

What qualities do you look for in candidates? How can I be successful at the Bank?

While we strongly value prior banking and financial services experience, we believe that a good attitude is the best qualification you can possess! Strong performers exhibit care for the customer, take initiative and continuously learn. These employees take responsibility for their work and their career advancement. We know that demonstrating strong communication skills and being computer literate can assist you in being very successful at the bank. We seek people who embrace leadership – and all the rewards and responsibilities that are attached.

What about training? What programs do you offer?

We encourage continuous learning and try to build in as much training for you as we can. Each new hire will attend our Team Member Welcome within 30 days of hire. This is your chance to meet with many of the bank’s leadership – including the President and CEO! You will also interact with other new hires and have a chance to meet and network with your future peers in an informal setting. You’ll receive important information about the bank, our structure, our mission and our goals.

Once you’re on board, you’ll find many ways to gain new knowledge. We support employees obtaining their financial licenses and we offer a generous tuition reimbursement program. In addition, many formal training programs exist from Customer Service Representative training to Investments training – to help you succeed at what you do. We also offer many on-line courses via Banker’s Edge. Plus, we always encourage you to stay current in your industry by reading articles, perusing trade magazines and researching the internet. Staying abreast of industry trends can only help you and our clients.

How frequently are employees paid?

Here at California National bank, we have a biweekly pay period. We try to minimize banking traffic by delivering paychecks on the Tuesday following the end of the pay period, so you won’t stand in any Friday afternoon “payday” lines. But of course, we always encourage direct deposit, too!

What other perks does California National Bank offer for the employees?

We truly are a family here at the bank! As a result, we do many things that your own family may do. We have holiday parties, celebrations of birthdays for employees, and even events to show our appreciation for each other! In addition, we participate in many community and charitable events – and each employee receives up to four hours per month to volunteer during working hours!

What is the dress code of California National Bank?

Being the steward of other peoples’ money is serious business – and we believe that dressing for success conveys our commitment towards our clients. At our Corporate Offices in Los Angeles, business attire is the dress code, with business casual attire on Fridays. Our branches also adhere to conservative dress codes, but have a little fun at times! Often branch managers will run specific themed campaigns and you may see branch employees “in costume” to match. A recent theme included Hawaiian attire – complete with flower necklaces! Mostly, we wish to instill trust in our customers – that we take our responsibilities to them very seriously.
